In the world of health, Health Vocational Schools have a very significant contribution in producing health workers, considering that health is a family of sciences that constantly develops from time to time. The development of IDUKA in the health sector that is also happening today certainly requires health workers with expertise in their fields. Currently, the SMK Kesehatan level is directly involved in social services. Because, over time, in health services, social and psychological aspects also need to be considered. In addition, the number of doctors, medical officers, hospitals and health centers available to date is still far below WHO requirements.
The role of Health Vocational Schools is crucial in producing health workers as a requirement to fulfill the needs of industry and the world of work. Health vocational schools participate in educating and producing competent and skilled young people in the health sector. In 2020, the government recognizes health vocational high school graduates as professional medical personnel who are able to pursue a career in health service institutions. Indonesian Law No. 36/2014, which discusses medical personnel, states that health vocational high school graduates can work as a medical assistant; nursing assistants, pharmacist assistants, and the like. As the number of elderly people increases, the fulfillment of the need for medical personnel specializing in homecare has also increased. This is where health vocational school graduates can play a role in meeting these needs. SMK Kesehatan participates in educating and producing young people who are competent and skilled for a career in the health sector.
SMK Kesehatan Nusantara Surabaya and SMK Kesehatan Surabaya are two health schools in Surabaya with the majority of output students who can enter a career in the health sector. These two schools implement comprehensive career management for students. This study focuses on knowing and analyzing the career management of students at SMK Kesehatan Nusantara Surabaya and SMK Kesehatan Surabaya.
Based on the results of the study, SMK Kesehatan Nusantara Surabaya and SMK Kesehatan Surabaya have different, but significant career management, ranging from planning, organizing, supervising, supporting factors and inhibiting factors.
SMK Kesehatan Nusantara Surabaya and SMK Kesehatan Surabaya both have their own strengths and weaknesses. However, the implication is that if the strengths of these two schools are collaborated and the weaknesses are evaluated together, they can become an ideal and superior SMK Kesehatan or become a new SMK which can then become a reference for other SMK Kesehatan schools in terms of student career management.
