Pembagian kerja secara seksual akan menimbulkan ketergantungan perempuan terhadap laki-laki. Ketergantungan tersebut terjadi karena perempuan bekerja di ranah domestik yang tidak bernilai ekonomi. Institusi pernikahan menjadi tempat paling nyata adanya pembagian kerja secara seksual. Simone de Beauvoir menjelaskan bahwa institusi pernikahan merenggut kebebasan perempuan. Perempuan yang menikah dengan seorang abdi negara atau seorang tentara tidaklah lepas dari aturan instansi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana ibu Jalasenastri dalam menunjukkan eksistensinya ditengah belenggu aturan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan perspektif Feminis Eksistensialis Simone de Beauvoir. Lokasi penelitian ini dilakukan di Surabaya. Subyek penelitian ini adalah istri TNI Angkatan Laut.

Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa istri TNI Angkatan Laut memiliki peran penuh dalam rumah tangga dan tidak mampu menentukan kebebasan hidupnya, artinya adalah istri TNI Angkatan Laut hanya diposisikan sebagai the other. Istri TNI Angkatan Laut juga belum mampu melakukan transendensi sosial untuk menjadi perempuan independen dengan melaksanakan strategi yang ditawarkan Beauvoir untuk menunjukkan eksistensinya. Istri TNI Angkatan Laut belum mampu bekerja di ranah publik, menjadi intelektual, mencapai transformasi sosial, dan menolak jika dijadikan objek. Istri Angkatan Laut juga masih terbelenggu oleh konsep istri dan ibu yang menghambat perempuan untuk mandiri.

Sexual division of labor will lead to women's dependence on men. This dependence occurs because women work in the domestic realm that has no economic value. Marriage institutions become the most obvious place of sexual division of labor. Simone de Beauvoir explained that the institution of marriage deprives women of freedom. Women who are married to a servant of the state or a soldier can not be separated from the agency rules. This study aims to find out how Jalasenastri's mother shows her existence amidst the shackles of rules. This study uses a qualitative method with the Existentialist Feminist perspective Simone de Beauvoir. The location of this research was conducted in Surabaya. The subject of this research is the wife of the Navy.

The results of this study indicate that the wife of the Navy has a full role in the household and is unable to determine the freedom of his life, meaning that the wife of the Navy is only positioned as the other. The wife of the Navy also has not been able to do social transcendence to become an independent woman by implementing the strategies offered by Beauvoir to show her existence. The wife of the Navy has not been able to work in the public sphere, become an intellectual, achieve social transformation, and refuse to be made an object. The Navy's wife is still shackled by the concept of wife and mother which prevents women from being independent.
