The Development of the Cross Board Multiplication (Kalipang) Media to Improve Interest and Learning Outcomes of Fourth Grade Students on Whole Number Multiplication
Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya pemahaman siswa kelas IV SD terhadap konsep perkalian karena pembelajaran masih bersifat hafalan dan minim penggunaan media konkret. Tujuannya adalah mengembangkan media Perkalian Papan Silang (Kalipang) untuk membantu siswa memahami perkalian secara visual dan interaktif, serta menguji kelayakan dan pengaruhnya terhadap hasil dan minat belajar.
Model pengembangan yang digunakan adalah ADDIE dengan lima tahap: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation. Uji coba dilakukan di kelas IV SD untuk menilai validitas, kepraktisan, dan efektivitas Kalipang. Hasil validasi menunjukkan media Kalipang sangat layak digunakan, dengan skor ahli media 85,3%, ahli materi 89%, dan instrumen 87,5%. Media dinilai sesuai kurikulum, menarik, dan mudah digunakan. Beberapa revisi kecil dilakukan agar lebih komunikatif dan efektif.
Respon guru sebesar 92% dan siswa 91% menunjukkan media sangat praktis digunakan. Kalipang mudah dioperasikan, membantu menjelaskan konsep abstrak, serta menarik minat belajar siswa. Media ini cocok digunakan di kelas maupun sebagai latihan mandiri.
Penggunaan Kalipang meningkatkan hasil belajar dari 51,5% menjadi 81,5% dengan skor N-Gain 0,6265 (kategori sedang). Minat belajar juga naik dari 63,75% menjadi 86,25%. Kalipang terbukti meningkatkan pemahaman konsep, motivasi, dan keterlibatan aktif siswa.
Media Kalipang valid, praktis, dan efektif, serta berpengaruh positif terhadap hasil dan minat belajar siswa. Kalipang cocok sebagai inovasi pembelajaran visual-kinestetik yang membantu pemahaman konkret dan menciptakan suasana belajar menyenangkan di kelas matematika.
Secara keseluruhan, media Perkalian Papan Silang (Kalipang) terbukti valid, praktis, dan efektif dalam meningkatkan hasil serta minat belajar siswa kelas IV SD pada materi perkalian bilangan cacah. Media ini membantu siswa memahami konsep secara konkret dan interaktif, menciptakan pembelajaran yang menyenangkan, serta layak digunakan sebagai inovasi pembelajaran matematika yang mendukung penerapan Kurikulum Merdeka.
This study was motivated by the low understanding of fourth-grade elementary students regarding multiplication concepts, as learning activities were still dominated by memorization and lacked the use of concrete learning media. The purpose of this study was to develop the Cross Board Multiplication (Kalipang) media to help students understand multiplication visually and interactively, as well as to examine its feasibility and its effects on learning outcomes and learning interest.
The development model used was ADDIE, consisting of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Trials were conducted in a fourth-grade class to assess the validity, practicality, and effectiveness of the Kalipang media. The validation results indicated that Kalipang was highly feasible for use, with scores of 85.3% from media experts, 89% from material experts, and 87.5% from instrument validation. The media was considered curriculum-aligned, engaging, and easy to use. Minor revisions were made to improve clarity and effectiveness.
Teacher responses (92%) and student responses (91%) showed that the media was highly practical to use. Kalipang was easy to operate, helped clarify abstract concepts, and successfully attracted students’ learning interest. It was suitable for classroom use and independent learning.
The use of Kalipang improved students’ learning outcomes from 51.5% to 81.5%, with an N-Gain score of 0.6265 (moderate category). Learning interest also increased from 63.75% to 86.25%. Kalipang effectively enhanced conceptual understanding, motivation, and active student engagement.
Overall, the Kalipang media was valid, practical, and effective, and it had a positive impact on students’ learning outcomes and interest. Kalipang is suitable as a visual-kinesthetic learning innovation that supports concrete conceptual understanding and creates an enjoyable learning environment in mathematics classrooms.
In conclusion, the Cross Board Multiplication (Kalipang) media proved to be valid, practical, and effective in improving the learning outcomes and learning interest of fourth-grade students on whole number multiplication. This media helps students understand concepts concretely and interactively, fosters enjoyable learning experiences, and serves as a worthy innovation in mathematics education aligned with the implementation of the Kurikulum Merdeka (Independent Curriculum).
